India’s Agricultural Exports Expand Sharply as Product Basket Grows to Nearly 500 Items
India’s agricultural export basket has expanded from around 280 products to nearly 500 over the last decade, according to APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev. Agricultural exports reached 53 billion US dollars last year, placing India among the world’s top ten exporters, with growing shipments of pulses, cocoa products, pineapples, grapes, and pomegranates to global markets.
Highlighting the sector’s performance, Mr. Dev stated that India’s agricultural exports reached 53 billion US dollars last year. He noted that the country has consistently maintained its position among the world’s top ten agricultural exporting nations, reflecting the growing strength and competitiveness of its agricultural sector in international markets.
Mr. Dev said India has successfully diversified its agricultural exports beyond traditional products such as rice and spices. The country is now exporting a wider range of agricultural commodities, including pulses, cocoa products, pineapples, grapes, and pomegranates, to markets across dozens of countries.
The expansion of the export basket and the growing global presence of Indian agricultural products underline the country’s increasing role in international agricultural trade. The sustained growth in exports, coupled with product diversification, highlights India’s efforts to strengthen its position among leading agricultural exporting nations and broaden its reach across global markets.
