NEW DELHI: The Central Hall of Parliament House hosted the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026, bringing together young representatives selected from 757 universities and institutions across the country. Addressing the gathering, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla outlined his vision for Developed India 2047 and emphasized the crucial role of youth in shaping the nation’s future.
Speaking at the event, Birla said that the goal of building a developed India by 2047 can be achieved through the energy, innovation, leadership abilities, and sense of duty demonstrated by the country’s youth. He stated that young people are the driving force behind the nation’s aspirations and will play the most significant role in transforming India into a developed nation. by 2027
Highlighting the growing inclusivity of democratic institutions, Birla noted that women’s participation in governance has increased significantly in recent years. He said women are now assuming leadership roles across various sectors of the country. Referring to the passage of the Women’s Reservation legislation in the new Parliament building, he said the measure marked an important step toward strengthening women’s representation in public life.
Birla stressed that India’s democratic framework, from local self-governments to Parliament, is founded on public participation and inclusive development. He described the nation’s youth as ambitious and driven by large aspirations, adding that their determination, powerful ideas, and innovative capabilities constitute the greatest strength behind the vision of a developed India.
He further stated that Indian youth possess the ability to provide solutions to global challenges through innovation and technology. According to Birla, India continues to achieve new milestones in social, economic, educational, and technological sectors. He expressed confidence that in the coming years, Indian youth would lead the world in science, technology, research, and innovation.
Emphasizing India’s growing global standing, Birla said the international community increasingly views the country’s young population as a symbol of hope, confidence, and future possibilities. He described democracy not merely as a system of governance but as a living culture of dialogue, participation, consensus, and accountability. Parliament, he said, represents the highest platform of the nation’s collective consciousness, while youth parliament serves as a vibrant school of democracy.
Calling upon the participants to dedicate themselves to nation-building, Birla urged them to work with commitment and determination under the guiding principle of placing the nation first. He said the vision of a developed India is not the dream of any single individual, institution, or government, but a shared national commitment of 1.4 billion Indians.
The Lok Sabha Speaker emphasized that the responsibility of achieving the Developed India 2047 goal rests primarily on the shoulders of today’s youth. He said their energy, innovation, courage, and determination would be the most powerful forces in turning the national vision into reality. Encouraging young representatives to contribute actively to the country’s progress, Birla urged them to move forward with new ideas, fresh commitments, and ambitious dreams.
Concluding his address, Birla extended his best wishes to all participants for a bright future and called upon them to continue making meaningful contributions to nation-building.
