NTA Orders Temporary Telegram Restrictions Ahead of NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination

The National Testing Agency has imposed temporary restrictions on Telegram in India and ordered the suspension of message editing to curb fake NEET paper leak claims. The measures are aimed at protecting candidates and maintaining examination integrity ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination on June 21 while preventing the spread of misinformation and examination-related fraud.

In a significant move to curb misinformation and examination-related fraud, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced temporary restrictions on Telegram in India after cheating networks allegedly used the messaging platform to circulate fabricated claims of a NEET question paper leak. The measures have been introduced to safeguard candidates appearing for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21.

According to the NTA, access to Telegram will remain restricted across India until June 22. In addition, the agency has directed the platform to disable its message-editing feature until June 30. Officials stated that the decision was taken to prevent the spread of manipulated content and fabricated evidence falsely suggesting that examination papers had been leaked.

The testing agency emphasized that no examination paper exists outside the secured examination chain and rejected allegations of any leak. It urged students, parents, and stakeholders to rely exclusively on official communications and verified updates regarding the examination process.

The NTA further warned that misinformation campaigns could create unnecessary panic among candidates and disrupt public order. The agency said the temporary restrictions are intended to maintain the integrity of the examination system and ensure a fair environment for all participants.
