Modi Concludes Historic Slovakia Visit, Elevates Bilateral Ties to Comprehensive Partnership

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi was conferred Slovakia’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the White Double Cross, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening relations between the two nations. The honor underscored the growing importance of the India-Slovakia partnership and reflected the strong diplomatic goodwill between the countries.

Prime Minister Modi and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico held extensive discussions covering defense cooperation, artificial intelligence, green energy, trade, counter-terrorism, and global strategic issues. The two leaders also exchanged views on India’s bid for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, highlighting the importance of international cooperation and institutional reform.

A major outcome of the visit was the signing of approximately 14 agreements aimed at expanding collaboration in key sectors. The agreements covered defense, artificial intelligence, green energy, trade, and counter-terrorism, laying the foundation for broader cooperation in the years ahead. Bilateral trade, which has already exceeded €1.6 billion, was identified as an important area for further growth and investment.

The visit also featured several cultural engagements that showcased the warmth of people-to-people ties between the two countries. Youth yoga demonstrations and traditional folk dance performances highlighted cultural exchanges and strengthened public connections. Prime Minister Modi also interacted with members of the Indian community in Slovakia, which numbers around 9,200 people, acknowledging their role in enhancing relations between the two nations.

In a notable gesture reflecting the cordial nature of the visit, Prime Minister Fico personally bid farewell to Prime Minister Modi at the conclusion of the trip. The visit not only marked a historic milestone in diplomatic relations but also established a comprehensive framework for future cooperation, signaling a new chapter in the partnership between India and Slovakia.
