Maharashtra Braces for Rain, Thunderstorms and Heatwave Conditions as Pre-Monsoon Activity Intensifies
Maharashtra is set to witness a mix of heatwave conditions, rainfall and thunderstorms as pre-monsoon activity intensifies across the state. The India Meteorological Department has issued rain and heat alerts for multiple districts, while neighbouring Goa has enforced monsoon safety measures and restrictions along coastal areas.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow rain alert for all districts in the Konkan region, while yellow heat alerts remain in effect for selected areas of the state. The evolving weather pattern is expected to create a combination of rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning activity and hot, humid conditions across Maharashtra on June 15.
According to the weather forecast, the Konkan belt is likely to experience both heatwave conditions and pre-monsoon showers. Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts are expected to remain under the influence of high daytime temperatures, with light rainfall likely after the afternoon. Sindhudurg district may also receive light showers, while the entire Konkan region continues to remain under a yellow rain alert.
Weather conditions across North Maharashtra are expected to remain varied. Dhule district is likely to stay dry, while isolated locations in Nandurbar and Jalgaon may experience hot and humid conditions. Light rainfall has been forecast for Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts, providing some respite from the prevailing heat.
Western Maharashtra is expected to witness increased rainfall activity. Pune district is likely to receive light to moderate rain during the day. At the same time, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur districts could experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. A yellow rain alert has been issued for these districts as unstable weather conditions are expected to persist.
In the Marathwada region, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts remain under a yellow heat alert due to the likelihood of elevated temperatures. Light rainfall is expected in Parbhani and Hingoli districts, while Beed, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv may receive light to moderate showers. No weather alert has been issued for Akola district.
Vidarbha is expected to experience contrasting weather conditions. Heatwave conditions are likely in Amravati district, while thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds may affect Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal districts. Weather officials have indicated that heatwave conditions may continue in parts of the region even as thunderstorm activity develops. No alerts have been issued for Washim and Buldhana districts.
Meanwhile, authorities in neighbouring Goa have issued a monsoon safety advisory as the southwest monsoon advances. Drishti Marine, the state's designated lifesaving agency, has urged residents and tourists to avoid entering the sea during the monsoon season, warning that rapidly changing weather conditions can make coastal waters hazardous. Swimming in the sea and all coastal water sports activities have been prohibited during this period.
To strengthen public safety measures, more than 450 trained lifesavers and beach marshals have been deployed across 54 beaches in Goa, including 30 beaches in South Goa and 24 beaches in North Goa. Rescue teams have also been stationed at Mayem Lake, Dudhsagar Waterfalls, Savri Waterfall and Mhovacho Guno to respond to emergencies.
As Maharashtra witnesses a complex combination of heatwaves, rainfall and thunderstorms driven by intensifying pre-monsoon activity, residents have been advised to closely monitor the latest weather updates and follow official advisories. People living in areas under rain and thunderstorm alerts are urged to take necessary precautions, while visitors to coastal regions should strictly adhere to safety instructions issued by local authorities.
