Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand welcome in Slovakia during his historic visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. High-level talks with Slovak leaders focus on trade, defence, artificial intelligence, and green energy, while cultural performances and diaspora celebrations highlighted growing ties between the two nations.
The visit holds special significance as Modi is scheduled to hold extensive discussions with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Peter Pellegrini. The talks are focused on expanding strategic collaboration and exploring new opportunities for partnership between India and Slovakia. The engagement comes at a time when bilateral trade between the two countries has reached €1.6 billion, reflecting growing economic ties and mutual interest in deeper cooperation.
Members of the Indian diaspora gathered in large numbers to welcome the Prime Minister, waving national flags and greeting him warmly. The cultural reception highlighted the strong people-to-people connection between the two countries. Adding to the celebrations, the renowned Lúčnica Ensemble performed India’s national song, “Vande Mataram,” to commemorate its 150th anniversary. Children participated in cultural performances featuring traditional Slovak folk dances, while local artists chanted Sanskrit mantras, creating a unique blend of Indian and Slovak heritage.
On June 15, Modi was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour before the commencement of official meetings. The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in emerging technologies, sustainable energy initiatives, defence partnerships, and trade expansion, while reinforcing mutual respect and understanding between the two nations.
The historic visit underscores the growing importance of India-Slovakia relations and reflects a shared commitment to broadening strategic engagement.
