Centre Sanctions New India Reserve Battalion in Tripura to Strengthen Counter-Insurgency and Border Security

The Centre has approved a one-time financial grant of ₹50 crore and up to ₹30 crore for infrastructure. The decision is aimed at strengthening operational capacity and preparedness within the state security apparatus.

The newly sanctioned unit, established under standard federal protocols for equipment and deployment, will primarily focus on counter-insurgency operations and border security. The Centre will retain full authority to deploy personnel of this battalion anywhere in India as required, ensuring nationwide operational flexibility.

Alongside the security expansion, Chief Minister Manik Saha reviewed ASHA workers’ welfare measures and urban livability projects Asian Development Bank, reflecting the state’s parallel focus on social welfare and urban development planning.

The approval of the additional battalion marks a significant reinforcement of Tripura’s security architecture, while also underscoring the Centre’s continued emphasis on strengthening counter-insurgency readiness and maintaining strategic deployment control across the country.
