Centre Sanctions New India Reserve Battalion in Tripura to Strengthen Counter-Insurgency and Border Security

Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned an additional India Reserve Battalion in Tripura with a one-time grant of ₹50 crore and up to ₹30 crore for infrastructure. The unit will focus on counter-insurgency operations and border security duties, while the Centre retains authority to deploy personnel anywhere across the country. Chief Minister Manik Saha also reviewed ASHA workers’ welfare measures and urban livability projects with the Asian Development Bank.

 

In a significant move to reinforce the law and order framework in Tripura, the Ministry of Home Affairs has officially sanctioned the raising of an additional India Reserve Battalion.

The Centre has approved a one-time financial grant of ₹50 crore and up to ₹30 crore for infrastructure. The decision is aimed at strengthening operational capacity and preparedness within the state security apparatus.

The newly sanctioned unit, established under standard federal protocols for equipment and deployment, will primarily focus on counter-insurgency operations and border security. The Centre will retain full authority to deploy personnel of this battalion anywhere in India as required, ensuring nationwide operational flexibility.

Alongside the security expansion, Chief Minister Manik Saha reviewed ASHA workers’ welfare measures and urban livability projects Asian Development Bank, reflecting the state’s parallel focus on social welfare and urban development planning.
