Heatwave and Pre-Monsoon Instability Grip Maharashtra as Temperatures Surge Above 43°C Across Multiple Cities on May 15, 2026

Maharashtra faces extreme heatwave conditions, rising humidity, and pre-monsoon thunderstorms on May 15, 2026. Cities including Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Nashik, and Solapur report temperatures above 43°C. IMD issues heatwave, yellow, and thunderstorm alerts across multiple regions amid unstable weather patterns and increasing atmospheric changes.

Maharashtra is experiencing severe and rapidly shifting weather conditions on May 15, 2026, marked by an intense combination of heatwave conditions, rising humidity, and pre-monsoon atmospheric instability. The India Meteorological Department has issued heatwave warnings for Vidarbha and central Maharashtra, yellow alerts for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and thunderstorm alerts for western Maharashtra and the Konkan region.

Coastal districts including Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad are enduring oppressive humidity, creating persistently uncomfortable conditions. Inland regions such as Nagpur, Akola, Solapur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are facing extreme heat, with temperatures exceeding 43°C in several areas. Western Maharashtra and parts of Konkan are also witnessing intermittent cloud formation and isolated thunderstorms due to shifting wind patterns ahead of the monsoon season.

Mumbai continues to experience hot and humid conditions with sticky weather throughout the day and uncomfortable nights. The India Meteorological Department indicates that Mumbai and surrounding areas will remain under hot weather conditions for several more days, although partial cloud formation may offer brief, limited cooling later.

Nagpur is experiencing one of the most severe heat conditions in the state, with maximum temperatures ranging between 43°C and 45°C and minimum temperatures between 30°C and 32°C. Strong dry winds are intensifying the heatwave impact. While isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall are possible in parts of Vidarbha, high temperatures are expected to persist.

Nashik is witnessing daytime temperatures between 40°C and 42°C and nighttime temperatures between 25°C and 26°C. The city is experiencing dry heat with increasing humidity and warmer nights than usual. Weather experts indicate that scattered cloud movement and isolated thunderstorms may provide temporary relief in nearby areas later in the week.

Thane is recording temperatures between 35°C and 37°C with a minimum of 28°C. The coastal location is contributing to persistently high humidity levels. The region is expected to remain under heatwave conditions for the foreseeable period, followed by possible thunderstorm activity in surrounding areas.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is facing intense dry heat with maximum temperatures between 41°C and 42°C and minimum temperatures between 27°C and 28°C. The city experiences strong sunlight and harsh afternoon conditions. Weather instability is expected to increase gradually due to changing wind patterns over the Marathwada region.

Solapur is enduring severe dry heat with maximum temperatures ranging from 41°C to 43°C and minimum temperatures near 28°C. Rain chances remain low, although isolated thunderstorms may develop in surrounding districts.

Kolhapur is comparatively cooler, with maximum temperatures between 33°C and 34°C and minimum temperatures between 24°C and 25°C. The city is experiencing intermittent cloud cover and moderate humidity. Light rainfall and thunderstorms are expected due to active pre-monsoon conditions in western Maharashtra.

Several districts including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Raigad, Thane, Jalgaon, Akola, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are witnessing rapid weather changes driven by heatwave conditions, rising humidity, and pre-monsoon atmospheric activity.

The India Meteorological Department’s advisory highlights persistent heatwave conditions across Vidarbha and central Maharashtra, yellow alerts for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and thunderstorm warnings for western Maharashtra and Konkan. The weather is significantly impacting daily travel, agricultural activity, electricity demand, public health, and water supply conditions across multiple cities.

Maharashtra remains in a highly unstable transitional phase as it approaches the pre-monsoon period, with alternating extremes of intense heat and localized rainfall expected to continue in the coming days.
