Toyota Unveils Land Cruiser FJ in Japan at Rs 27.24 Lakh Equivalent, Compact Body-on-Frame SUV Set for India Entry
Toyota has launched the Land Cruiser FJ in Japan at JPY 4,500,100, approximately Rs 27.24 lakh, ahead of its expected India debut. The body-on-frame SUV features a 2.7-litre engine, 4WD system, advanced safety features, rugged design, and modern interior technology, positioning it as a key global SUV offering from Toyota.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ measures 4,610 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,890 mm in height, placing it in a size category similar to the Mahindra Scorpio-N. However, despite comparable external proportions, it offers a more compact interior due to a relatively shorter wheelbase of 2,580 mm. The vehicle adopts a boxy yet refined design language with smooth edges, reinforcing its rugged off-road character.
Under the hood, the Japan-spec model is powered by the 2TR-FE 2.7-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 164 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through a 6-speed automatic transmission paired with a part-time four-wheel-drive system. Industry speculation suggests that Toyota may introduce an updated variant featuring a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine based on the 1GD-FTV unit by 2029, although this has not been officially confirmed by the company.
The exterior design includes LED headlamps, LED front and rear fog lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with 265/60 R18 tyres, and part-LED tail lamps. A side-hinged tailgate with a centrally mounted spare wheel further emphasizes its off-road orientation. The model notably does not offer a sunroof, a design decision aligned with its core rugged usage focus.
Inside, the SUV features a semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch driver information display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is also equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, enhancing cabin comfort and functionality.
In terms of safety, the Land Cruiser FJ comes equipped with seven airbags, a blind spot monitoring system, rear cross traffic alert, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, a pre-collision safety system, and a 360-degree camera setup.
With its robust engineering, advanced safety suite, and off-road-focused design, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ marks a strategic addition to Toyota’s global SUV portfolio and sets the stage for a closely watched India launch.
