Tabor Electronics has launched a software-defined Anti-Drone Test and Evaluation solution built on its Proteus Software Defined Radio platform. The new system enables defense and security organizations to simulate real-world radio frequency threats in laboratory environments, accelerating counter-unmanned aircraft system development while reducing dependence on field testing.

 

 

Tabor Electronics has announced the commercial launch of its Anti-Drone Test and Evaluation solution, introducing a software-defined approach to validating counter-unmanned aircraft systems in an increasingly dynamic threat environment. Built on the company's Proteus Software Defined Radio platform, the new solution is designed to help defense and security organizations test and deploy counter-drone technologies with greater speed, precision, and flexibility.

As the proliferation of low-cost drones continues to reshape modern security challenges, traditional hardware-dependent testing environments are proving inadequate to keep pace with rapidly evolving communication protocols and threat profiles. Tabor Electronics' latest platform addresses this challenge by replacing rigid test infrastructures with a programmable framework that enables engineering teams to emulate and validate real-world radio frequency scenarios in controlled laboratory settings. This significantly reduces dependence on prolonged field testing and shortens development timelines.

The solution was originally developed in collaboration with leading anti-drone technology companies and has already demonstrated its effectiveness in active development and integration programs. Its commercial release now makes this proven capability available to organizations involved in defense, homeland security, public safety, and critical infrastructure protection.

At the heart of the platform is the Proteus Software Defined Radio architecture, which integrates wideband radio frequency signal generation and acquisition with real-time field-programmable gate array processing, deep memory, and high-throughput data movement within a compact commercial off-the-shelf system. This architecture supports closed-loop testing, enabling detection and mitigation techniques to be continuously assessed and refined under highly realistic radio frequency conditions.

The new platform marks a significant shift in counter-unmanned aircraft system validation by moving testing from the field to the laboratory and enabling rapid software-driven iteration. New threat scenarios can be introduced without modifying hardware, allowing engineering teams to respond quickly to emerging risks while maintaining a strong correlation between laboratory validation and operational performance.

This software-defined approach offers several operational advantages, including faster development and integration cycles, reduced reliance on field testing, more predictable system performance before deployment, and an extended lifespan for test infrastructure. By consolidating multiple radio frequency test functions into a single scalable Software Defined Radio platform, organizations can also reduce tool fragmentation and improve utilization of valuable testing assets across multiple programs.

The Proteus platform is based on a direct digital radio frequency architecture and supports wide-frequency signal generation and acquisition with high instantaneous bandwidth to accurately emulate complex threats. Programmable field-programmable gate array resources provide real-time adaptability, while flexible form factors including benchtop, desktop, and PXI configurations support both component-level development and full system evaluation. Multi-channel phase-coherent operation further enables sophisticated synchronized testing scenarios.

Mark Elo, Chief Product Officer at Tabor Electronics, said that counter-drone systems are being deployed in environments where threats evolve faster than conventional validation methods can respond. He stated that the platform was developed to close this gap by enabling teams to test against emerging threats rather than only known scenarios.
