BJP-Ruled States Enforce Fuel Conservation Measures After Prime Minister Modi’s Appeal
BJP leaders and chief ministers across multiple states have launched fuel conservation measures after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for responsible energy consumption. From reducing convoy sizes and limiting air travel to encouraging public transport and carpooling, governments are implementing strict expenditure-control directives.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda has reduced the size of his official convoy by nearly half. Sources stated that the number of vehicles accompanying the minister has been cut significantly while ensuring that all mandatory security protocols remain intact.
The move comes shortly after Union Home Minister Amit Shah also downsized his convoy to less than half its earlier strength in response to the Prime Minister’s “seven appeals” focused on energy conservation and economic resilience.
Across several BJP-governed states, administrations have issued strict directives to limit official fuel consumption and reduce unnecessary government spending.
In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered an immediate 50 percent reduction in the vehicle fleets assigned to himself, ministers, and government officials. He also urged elected representatives to use public transport at least one day every week as part of the conservation initiative.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that he would use the minimum possible number of vehicles in his convoy and appealed to ministers in the state to prioritise public transport for official movement.
In Delhi, BJP leader Rekha Gupta declared that Cabinet ministers, legislators, and government officials would use only the minimum number of vehicles required for official work. She also encouraged the adoption of carpooling to reduce fuel consumption.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma issued instructions ensuring that unnecessary vehicles are not deployed for security arrangements or official duties.
Several states have also introduced restrictions on air travel. The Maharashtra government has imposed curbs on non-essential air travel and directed ministers to obtain prior approval from the Chief Minister’s Office before using government aircraft.
In Gujarat, the Governor announced that he would prefer trains and buses for travel within the state instead of helicopters or aircraft. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi also cancelled his proposed visit to the United States in response to the Prime Minister’s appeal.
In Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary personally reduced the number of vehicles in his fleet by half and resolved to undertake official travel only when absolutely necessary.
The measures introduced by BJP leaders across multiple states are aimed not only at conserving fuel and reducing expenditure, but also at sending a strong public message promoting simplicity, responsible governance, and environmental conservation during a period of increasing focus on economic discipline and resource management.
