Google Faces Major Service Disruption Across India as Thousands Report Search Failures
Google suffered a widespread outage across India on Tuesday morning, disrupting Google Search and affecting thousands of users on smartphones and computers. Users reported server errors, blank pages, and failed search results, while Downdetector recorded over 3,300 complaints before services gradually began recovering.
The outage began around 10:20 am IST, when more than 3,300 complaints were registered on Downdetector within a short span of time, indicating a large-scale disruption affecting users across multiple regions. The majority of complaints were linked to Google Search functionality, while several users also reported difficulties accessing the website itself.
Users attempting to perform searches encountered an error notification that stated: “Server Error. We're sorry, but it appears that there has been an internal server error while processing your request. Our engineers have been notified and are working to resolve the issue. Please try again later.”
According to Downdetector data, 57 per cent of complaints were related to problems with Google Search. Another 28 per cent of users reported that content was failing to load properly, while 11 per cent highlighted issues involving the website itself. The figures indicated that the disruption extended across several core service functions rather than being limited to a single feature.
The outage affected users on both smartphones and computers, suggesting a system-wide technical failure rather than a device-specific issue. Reports indicated that users across different platforms encountered identical server error messages and loading failures during the disruption.
As the outage spread, users turned to X to verify whether the issue was widespread. The disruption quickly became a major topic of discussion online, with users sharing screenshots, comparing error messages, and confirming similar experiences during the downtime.
Following the initial spike in complaints, reports on Downdetector began declining sharply. By approximately 11:05 am IST, the number of complaints had fallen to 464, indicating that Google services were gradually being restored and that the company was recovering from the outage.
Despite the widespread disruption, Google had not released an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or the expected duration of service instability at the time of reporting. The company also did not clarify what triggered the internal server error that affected users across regions.
The outage once again highlighted the scale of dependence on Google’s digital ecosystem, as even a short disruption to its search infrastructure caused immediate nationwide impact, widespread online reaction, and significant interruption to routine internet activity across devices and platforms.
