Maharashtra Greenlights Massive PMAY-U Township in Borivali to Fulfill Middle-Class Housing Dreams
Maharashtra Government approves a massive 28.84-acre PMAY-U township in Borivali West for EWS and LIG families. Spearheaded by CM Devendra Fadnavis, this 729 crore rupee project on BSNL and MTNL land features 450 sq ft homes, schools, and hospitals with direct Coastal Road connectivity. A historic first for Maharashtra metro cities, aiming to fulfill middle-class housing dreams within four years.
This ambitious development, estimated to cost 729 crore rupees, is specifically designed to benefit two primary categories: the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and the Low Income Group (LIG). Each residential unit within the township will measure approximately 450 square feet and will be made available at affordable rates to eligible citizens. The project is envisioned not merely as a housing complex but as a self-sustaining integrated township. The premises will house essential social infrastructure including schools and hospitals to serve the residents. For leisure and community growth, the plan incorporates playgrounds, a cultural center, and a dedicated skill development center aimed at providing youth with necessary employment training. Additionally, a commercial area will be established to cater to daily consumer needs.
Strategic connectivity remains the cornerstone of this mega-project. The location is situated in close proximity to two metro stations and will benefit from direct connectivity to the proposed Versova-Dahisar Coastal Road, significantly easing the commute to South Mumbai and Andheri. Trayambak Kasar, Managing Director of Maha-Housing, stated that the Chief Minister has issued directives to expedite the land transfer process. With expectations for the Bhoomi Pujan to take place within the next two to three months, the government has set a firm target to complete this transformative mega-project within the next three to four years. This initiative stands as a monumental shift in urban planning, promising a high quality of life and permanent addresses for those previously priced out of the Mumbai real estate market.
