BJP Councillor Accuses MCD of Deep-Rooted Corruption in Delhi’s Waste Disposal System
BJP councillor Rajpal has accused the Municipal Corporation of Delhi of serious corruption in its waste disposal system, alleging irregularities in how private companies handle garbage collection and landfill transport. Delhi Assembly leader Saurabh Bharadwaj has urged strict action, calling it a major misuse of public funds.
According to Rajpal, the MCD has contracted private agencies across various city zones to collect waste and transport it to designated landfill sites. The councillor alleged that the corporation relies almost entirely on weight-based assessments to certify that these companies have completed their work. He claimed that this verification method is riddled with irregularities and has become a conduit for large-scale corruption centered around Delhi’s “mountains of garbage.”
Rajpal argued that the system allows private contractors to falsely demonstrate compliance while the actual condition of waste disposal remains highly questionable. He asserted that the flawed process not only undermines sanitation efforts but also compromises public funds meant to maintain essential civic services.
The allegations reverberated beyond the walls of the committee meeting. Saurabh Bharadwaj, Leader of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, echoed the concerns and stated that any corruption involving public money must be treated with utmost seriousness. He emphasized that mismanagement in waste removal directly affects residents and contributes to the growing environmental and health hazards emanating from the city’s overflowing landfills.
Rajpal’s claims have added new urgency to the debate over municipal governance and the effectiveness of contracted waste management services in Delhi. As questions mount over the integrity of the current system, the controversy has intensified calls for stricter oversight and a more transparent approach to safeguarding public resources.
