BLO in Meerut Hospitalised After Allegedly Consuming Poison Amid Intense Work Pressure

A Booth Level Officer in Meerut is in critical condition after allegedly consuming poison due to intense work pressure linked to SIR duties. Senior officials reviewed the situation as the family accused a supervisor of forcing tasks without proper training. The incident highlights rising concerns over the workload on frontline election staff.

A Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, is battling for life after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance, a step his family claims was driven by severe work-related stress. The officer, Mohit Chaudhary—posted at ICD Pallavpuram under the Irrigation Department—was rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to early information, Chaudhary had been handling SIR-related duties and was reportedly under mounting pressure to meet administrative demands. Senior officials, including the Nodal Election Officer and the Additional District Magistrate (Administration), visited the hospital to review his condition and assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.

His family members levelled serious allegations against his supervisor, asserting that Chaudhary had been assigned SIR work without the necessary training. They maintained that the relentless workload and lack of proper guidance pushed him toward desperation.

The incident has sparked concerns over the mental and operational strain faced by ground-level election staff, particularly in the run-up to major administrative exercises. As Chaudhary fights for recovery, the case underscores the urgent need to reassess workload distribution and support mechanisms for field officials who often bear the brunt of election preparedness responsibilities.
