UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya Says Samajwadi Party in “Serious Decline” After Recent Electoral Losses

Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, during a media interaction in Badaun, declared that the Samajwadi Party has entered a steep decline after recent Lok Sabha, Assembly and Bihar election results. He predicted a stronger BJP win in 2027 and criticised the opposition over national slogans and future political relevance.

In Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a sharp offensive against the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the broader opposition, asserting that the party’s influence has weakened considerably following the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the recent Assembly outcomes, and the latest election results in Bihar. Speaking to reporters, Maurya claimed that the SP is facing an unprecedented downturn, arguing that its political standing has deteriorated across multiple electoral battles.

Reaffirming the Bharatiya Janata Party’s confidence ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Maurya predicted that the party’s next performance would surpass even its sweeping victory in 2017. He accused the opposition alliance of being agitated over the invocation of “Vande Mataram,” describing the patriotic slogan as a unifying national mantra. Maurya questioned the opposition’s stance on such expressions of national pride, rhetorically asking whether those unwilling to chant “Bharat Mata ki Jai” would rather endorse slogans of another country.

The Deputy Chief Minister further asserted that neither the Congress nor the Samajwadi Party is likely to regain substantial political ground by 2047, arguing that voters have rejected both parties repeatedly in recent contests. Addressing the viral images of him smiling alongside SP chief Akhilesh Yadav during the Bihar campaign, Maurya remarked humorously that Yadav had asked him, “When will you treat us with sweets?”

Maurya’s statements underline the intensifying political posturing in Uttar Pradesh, where parties are already positioning themselves ahead of the next major state election cycle. His remarks also highlight the BJP’s broader narrative of diminishing opposition strength, setting the tone for escalating political exchanges in the months to come.
