MPSC Group C Recruitment 2026: Over 11,000 New Posts Added, Total Nears 16,000
MPSC Group C recruitment 2026 is set for a major expansion, with over 11,000 additional posts taking the total close to 16,000. V. Radha reveals what the January 2027 final report will address.
The important details were shared by V. Radha, Additional Chief Secretary of Maharashtra and head of the high-level committee, during a telephonic interview with Maharashtra Times. She said the committee had accelerated its work and released an interim report to ensure that candidates do not suffer any loss and receive relief during the recruitment process.
According to the report, an assessment of requirements received from various government departments has resulted in a recommendation to add 11,000 additional vacancies. The report containing details of these posts has been forwarded to the commission. With this addition, the total number of vacancies under the MPSC Group C Combined Preliminary Examination 2026 has increased to approximately 16,000.
The administration is making extensive efforts to fill the maximum possible number of vacant posts. Positive discussions have also taken place with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the issue. The decision was taken after coordination with all the concerned recruitment agencies.
While preparing the interim report, the committee conducted an in-depth study of competitive examination systems in eight different states across the country. It also examined the examination systems followed by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the National Testing Agency (NTA).
V. Radha clarified that the report released at present represents only 2 per cent of the committee's complete report. The detailed and final report is scheduled to be submitted in January 2027.
The final report will primarily focus on streamlining and regularising the examination calendar of the commission. It will also examine vacant positions across hundreds of cadres in various state government departments and develop a mechanism to fill these vacancies through competitive examinations.
Meanwhile, Radha was also asked about the demand from candidates to restore the descriptive format of the State Services Main Examination to the earlier objective format. Responding to the issue, she said the committee had prioritised urgent measures related to the Group C examination in view of the immediate requirements of candidates.
The interim report has therefore included immediate provisions such as relaxation in the age limit and an increase in the number of vacancies. She clarified that decisions concerning the examination pattern of the State Services Main Examination, along with other provisions, would be incorporated into the final report.
With more than 11,000 additional vacancies recommended and the total Group C recruitment figure approaching 16,000, the interim report marks an important development for MPSC candidates. The committee's final report, expected in January 2027, will outline further measures concerning examination schedules, recruitment across government departments and the examination system
