Bengaluru Cab Driver Allegedly Kills Wife and Six In-Laws Over Family Disputes
Bengaluru police are investigating the alleged murder of a woman and six members of her family by her husband. A missing persons complaint, suspicious statements and a recovery at Nandi Hills have brought the case into focus.
Indushekhar had been married to Sunitha for nearly two decades, and the couple lived in Bengaluru's Rajajinagar area. According to police, their relationship had remained strained for several years. Although relatives repeatedly attempted to reconcile the couple, their disputes continued. Investigators suspect that Indushekhar became increasingly resentful of Sunitha's close relationship with her mother and brothers, whom he believed were interfering in his married life.
Police suspect that he eventually planned to kill the family members he held responsible for the ongoing conflicts. According to preliminary reports, Sunitha was the first victim.
Investigators said Indushekhar allegedly struck Sunitha on the head with a grinding stone, killing her. He then reportedly transported her body to Nandi Hills and disposed of it there. To avoid attracting suspicion, he allegedly told neighbours that his wife had gone on a trip with friends and had switched off her mobile phone.
The following day, Indushekhar allegedly invited his brothers-in-law, Shivakumar and Shankar, to his house on the pretext of a drinking party and murdered them.
According to investigators, he subsequently killed their wives, Nalini and Divya, along with his mother-in-law, Rupavathi, and Shankar's seven-year-old son, Puneeth. Police suspect that the victims were called to the house one after another before being killed. Their bodies were allegedly disposed of at different locations in an attempt to conceal the murders.
After the alleged killings, Indushekhar reportedly cleaned the house to remove bloodstains. He also allegedly used chemicals to wash the grinding stone believed to have been used in the murders. Investigators have seized the stone and the car suspected of being used to transport the bodies.
As the investigation progressed, police took the accused to Nandi Hills and launched a search operation. After several hours of searching, officers recovered the body of seven-year-old Puneeth from the area. Efforts are continuing to locate the remaining bodies.
The case came to light after Nalini's mother approached the police and filed a missing persons complaint. While investigating the disappearance of the family members, officers reportedly began suspecting Indushekhar's involvement.
According to police, contradictions in his statements and clues recovered during a search of his residence strengthened their suspicions. During sustained questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the killings.
Investigators said Indushekhar claimed that he had been distressed by longstanding domestic disputes. Police are also examining whether anyone else helped him carry out the murders, including the possible involvement of his daughter.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge described the killing of seven members of a family in Karnataka as a "very unfortunate" incident on Friday.
