West Bengal Village Gets Electricity for First Time Since Independence in 1947
Chakdah village in West Bengal's Hooghly district has received electricity for the first time since 1947. Around 400 Adivasi families are set to benefit as BJP MLA Santu Pan fulfils his promise and further work continues.
The development marks a major change for residents who had lived without electricity since 1947. A local resident, speaking in a video, expressed happiness over the arrival of electricity and highlighted the difficulties faced by children in the village due to the lack of power.
The resident also credited recent efforts by the BJP, claiming that electricity poles had remained unused during the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) rule despite being installed in the area.
BJP MLA Santu Pan, who was elected from the Tarkeshwar constituency in 2026, fulfilled his promise to bring electricity to the village by overseeing the installation of wires and electricity meters.
