Northern Railway Orders 24-Hour Food Services at Stations Amid Festive Rush
Northern Railway has ordered 24-hour food services at busy stations across six divisions during the festive rush. Find out what new arrangements, inspections and measures will be introduced to protect passengers from catering-related problems.
Northern Railway Chief Commercial Manager Rajiv Kumar Makhija has issued instructions to ensure uninterrupted food availability at stations. The directions have been sent to the Senior Divisional Commercial Managers of Delhi, Lucknow, Moradabad, Ambala, Firozpur and Jammu Tawi. They have been asked to implement the arrangements immediately on a priority basis.
Under the new arrangements, all refreshment rooms, permanent catering units and sales outlets at crowded railway stations will remain open 24 hours a day. The railway authorities have also instructed catering operators to maintain adequate stocks of meals, packaged food, drinking water, tea and snacks to ensure that passengers do not have to wait for refreshments.
A quick-service system will also be introduced to speed up food distribution. Where existing stalls are insufficient to handle the passenger rush, additional arrangements will be made in accordance with the prescribed rules.
The railway administration has made it clear that negligence in catering services will not be tolerated. Concerned commercial officials will monitor the entire arrangement to ensure uninterrupted supplies and proper service at stations.
Ambala Divisional Senior Commercial Manager Yashanjeet Singh said employees had been assigned specific responsibilities and that he would also conduct surprise inspections. A team of officials will continuously inspect catering stalls to monitor service standards.
Strict action will be taken against vendors found overcharging passengers or supplying substandard food. A special mechanism will also be put in place to ensure that complaints regarding such issues are addressed promptly.
The arrangements are intended to ensure that passengers travelling during the festive rush have access to food and beverages at railway stations throughout the day and night, without disruptions in catering services.
