Cyclone Arnab Triggers Rain and Cold Winds Across UP, Heavy Rain Alert Issued
Cyclone Arnab's impact from the Bay of Bengal has brought rain, cold winds and cloudy skies across Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning warnings have raised concerns in eastern and western UP.
Light rain began in Varanasi, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur, while Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh witnessed misty and cold conditions early in the morning. Cold winds also started blowing as the weather changed suddenly and clouds covered the sky. The shift brought an early sense of winter chill, with temperatures expected to decline.
According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, thunderstorms, rain and lightning were expected on Thursday and Friday. Wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, accompanied by heavy rainfall. The department also issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with strong gusty winds, in isolated parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Wednesday's maximum temperature was recorded at 32.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum stood at 19.8 degrees Celsius. Meteorologist Mohammad Danish said heavy rainfall was likely on October 29 and 30. The city's maximum temperature is expected to remain around 29 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 22 degrees Celsius until October 31.
Following the rainfall warning, the administration moved to alert mode and advised residents to remain cautious. The forecast of strong winds has also raised concerns among officials about dilapidated buildings and their safety during adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the impact of the storm system is also expected to be felt across Meerut and other parts of western Uttar Pradesh. Cloudy conditions and rainfall are likely across the region over the next 48 hours, with one or two spells of rain expected.
The changing weather could also disrupt moon-sighting plans on Karwa Chauth night, as cloud cover may obstruct the view of the moon. Clouds had started reaching some parts of western Uttar Pradesh late Wednesday night, with their impact expected to intensify from Thursday morning.
Meerut had already recorded the coldest night in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, with the season's lowest temperature also registered there. Meanwhile, the city's Air Quality Index stood at 201, placing it in the poor category.
With rain, strong winds, lightning and a possible further drop in temperatures forecast across several parts of Uttar Pradesh, residents have been advised to remain alert as the weather system continues to affect the state.
