Two Women Die in Nalasopara High-Rise Fire as 30 Residents Are Evacuated
Two women, Falguni Shah and Ashwini Parkar, died after a fire broke out at Imperial Heights in Nalasopara on October 13. Seven fire engines and cranes joined the overnight rescue as authorities investigated the suspected cause.
The deceased, Falguni Shah and Ashwini Parkar, both aged 50, reportedly died from apparent smoke inhalation after the fire erupted at around 11:30 p.m. The incident prompted an extensive response from emergency teams, who worked through the night to evacuate residents and bring the blaze under control.
The fire spread across the 13th and 14th floors of Imperial Heights, leaving several residents in need of rescue. Emergency personnel deployed seven fire engines and cranes to carry out evacuation operations, helping between 25 and 30 people escape from the building.
Some residents were forced to wait for approximately 45 minutes on an exterior ledge as rescue teams worked to bring them to safety. Six other people were hospitalised following the incident.
Firefighting operations continued into Wednesday morning, with the blaze brought under control by 7:20 a.m. The prolonged operation highlighted the challenges emergency teams faced while evacuating residents from the affected floors of the high-rise.
A short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire. The suspected cause remains under investigation, with authorities also examining the building's fire safety arrangements as part of the probe.
The deaths of Falguni Shah and Ashwini Parkar, along with the evacuation of dozens of residents and the hospitalisation of six people, have placed the focus on the circumstances surrounding the fire and the adequacy of fire safety measures at Imperial Heights in Nalasopara.
