MPSC Protest Leader Vivekanand Patil Returns Home to Grand Welcome, Gets Raj Thackeray’s Call

MPSC protest leader Vivekanand Patil receives a grand welcome in his native Majgaon after the Pune agitation. Raj Thackeray calls him to Mumbai as the government orders an inquiry into MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimanwar.

Vivekanand Patil, the Kolhapur native who emerged as a prominent face of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) students’ protest in Pune, returned to his native village of Majgaon on the night of October 13, 2026, where villagers welcomed him with great enthusiasm. Patil, who drew statewide attention through his speeches during the agitation, appeared overwhelmed by the affection shown by residents. He also delivered a forceful speech in Majgaon, his native village in Kolhapur district.

Patil’s role in the protest brought him recognition across Maharashtra. During the agitation, several political leaders expressed support for him. Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar and Congress MLA Vishwajeet Kadam stood alongside him, while Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray remained in regular contact with him. Aaditya Thackeray also called him repeatedly to enquire about the situation.

Patil revealed that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray had also called him after the protest. According to Patil, Thackeray congratulated him on the outcome of the struggle and invited him to Mumbai for a meeting.

“The struggle has been successful. Now come to Mumbai and meet me,” Patil said, recounting Thackeray’s message. He added that he would travel to Mumbai again following the invitation.

Raj Thackeray had earlier visited the MPSC protest site in Pune and met the protesting students. He subsequently met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the issues raised by the aspirants. After that meeting, Thackeray had indicated that the students would receive good news within the next two days.

The students’ 11- to 12-day agitation in Pune was suspended at midnight on October 12, 2026, after the government agreed to several key demands and constituted the inquiry committee. Although the protesters had insisted on Bhimanwar’s resignation, the government opted for an investigation and ordered him to remain on compulsory leave until the inquiry is completed.

The five-member committee has been given two months to investigate the allegations concerning Bhimanwar. Dilip Bhosale has been appointed chairman of the committee, while Tukaram Mundhe has been appointed its secretary. The inquiry will cover officials across the MPSC, from former and serving chairpersons to peons.

The government has also assured the protesters that cases registered against them will be withdrawn. It has promised to fill 70,000 vacant posts over the next three years and increase the number of Group C posts scheduled for recruitment in 2027. The letter accepting the demands bears the signature of the Chief Secretary.

Other commitments include changing the ratio for tehsildar recruitment from 60:40 to 50:50, increasing the MPSC’s membership to 11, conducting all MPSC examinations exclusively through the offline mode, and adopting a single syllabus for police recruitment.

The suspension of the agitation followed these assurances and the formation of the inquiry panel. With the investigation into the MPSC administration now set to examine officials across different levels, the government’s commitments and the committee’s findings will be central to addressing the concerns raised by the protesting aspirants.
