Delhi Metro Tells Supreme Court No Trains Were Cancelled During October 10 Protest

Delhi Metro has told the Supreme Court that no trains were cancelled during the October 10, 2026, protest, despite entry and exit closures at 45 stations. The DMRC also detailed passenger numbers and network operations.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has informed the Supreme Court that no trains were cancelled during the October 10 protest in Delhi, despite entry and exit restrictions at 45 metro stations during a demonstration called by the Cockroach Janata Party.

In its response before the Supreme Court, the DMRC stated that there was no reduction in the overall volume of metro operations and no decrease in the number of train trips. The corporation clarified that Delhi Metro’s entire network comprises 303 stations, of which entry and exit facilities were closed at only 45 stations.

In its affidavit, the DMRC said that more than 85 per cent of the network, comprising 258 stations, remained fully operational and accessible to passengers. It further stated that the entry and exit restrictions at the 45 stations were implemented based on assessments by law enforcement agencies and in accordance with their directions.

The corporation also reported that approximately 32 lakh passengers travelled by metro on October 10, 2026. In comparison, around 58 lakh passengers typically use the metro on a regular second Saturday.

The DMRC filed the affidavit in compliance with the Supreme Court’s October 9 order. The court was hearing a petition challenging the closure of various metro stations and the cancellation of trains arriving in Delhi in view of the October 10 protest in the national capital.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court directed the Central Government to ensure that there was no “complete restriction” on the movement of metro services and trains arriving in Delhi.

The DMRC’s affidavit sets out its position on the operational impact of the restrictions, stating that no trains were cancelled and the number of train trips remained unchanged, even as entry and exit facilities were suspended at 45 stations across the network.
