Suryansh Shedge in Line for India ODI Squad for New Zealand Tour After A Success
Suryansh Shedge could earn a place in India's ODI squad for the New Zealand tour after impressing against Australia A. With four wickets, a 66-run innings and a tight gap before the Tests, India's selection plans are drawing attention.
Suryansh Shedge Impresses Against Australia A
Suryansh Shedge recently represented India A in the unofficial ODI series against Australia A. The 23-year-old fast-bowling all-rounder took four wickets in the first match and delivered a decisive innings of 66 runs in the final match. His bowling has improved considerably, a development that has reportedly impressed the selectors. He can also provide explosive batting in the lower order.
Shedge has scored 337 runs and taken 16 wickets in 18 List A matches. According to a BCCI source quoted by PTI, his chances of making the ODI squad are high because Nitish Kumar Reddy is expected to play an important role as the fourth seamer and a lower-order floater during the Test series. As a result, Reddy is unlikely to feature in every ODI, as he will need to prepare for red-ball cricket.
Three-Day Gap Between ODI and Test Series Poses Challenge
Hardik Pandya has been away from the cricket field for a prolonged period because of an injury, prompting India to explore alternatives. Nitish Kumar Reddy is one of the team's key fast-bowling all-rounders and also plays Test cricket.
The ODI series between India and New Zealand is scheduled to conclude on November 15, while the Test series will begin on November 19. Players will travel on November 16, leaving them with only two days for practice before the Tests begin.
India and New Zealand were initially scheduled to play only three ODIs. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) added two more matches following a request from New Zealand Cricket. New Zealand has also left its Test specialists out of the squad for the final two ODIs, and India could adopt a similar approach.
With the ODI series extended and only a short preparation window before the Tests, Shedge's potential inclusion could give India another fast-bowling all-rounder option while allowing the team to manage Reddy's workload ahead of the red-ball matches.
