Rahul Gandhi Takes on Modi Government During Chennai Youth Outreach Event
Rahul Gandhi launched the sixth ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event at Chennai’s Island Grounds on October 10, addressing NEET paper leaks, education costs and unemployment as his remarks on the Constitution drew support and criticism.
More than 100,000 students registered online for the event, but only 10,000 to 20,000 students with QR codes were permitted to attend due to safety considerations. The participation restrictions reflected the arrangements made to manage the gathering while allowing registered students to take part in the programme.
The interactive session addressed concerns surrounding NEET paper leaks, rising education costs and unemployment. By engaging directly with students, Gandhi sought to bring these issues into focus and provide a platform for young people to express their concerns.
Hours before the event, Gandhi issued a strong message pledging to defend the Constitution and stand up for youth voices against what he sees as government overreach. The statement drew cheers from supporters while also prompting questions from critics, placing his remarks at the centre of the day's political outreach.
I’ve been fighting Narendra Modi and the RSS for over a decade now. I understand them like you would understand your opponent - inside out, like the back of my hand. The core characteristic of these people is cowardice. Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, Gyanesh Kumar and Ajit Doval, the villains of this story, are slowly finding the space closing around them. We are closing that space. Mr. Modi, do whatever you want. Call out all the police: 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, whatever you want. Arrest all the leaders. Arrest all the young people. Arrest us all. We are surrounding you, and we are not going to back down. Mark my words: we already have the information we need. We are going to defend our Constitution. We are going to protect the voice of the Indian people. And we are going to ensure that what was done to India over the last 10-15 years will never, ever be done again. Youth of India, I am proud of you. Keep protesting. We are standing with you. We are going to ensure that this regime and the people who have attacked our Constitution are defeated.

The Chennai programme builds on similar stops in other cities, extending the outreach effort to students and young people facing concerns over education and employment. The initiative comes amid opposition protests over election issues, with the events seeking to channel youth frustrations into a wider political conversation.
Gandhi’s Chennai appearance combined direct engagement with students, criticism of the government and a commitment to constitutional principles, making youth concerns a central theme of the sixth ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event.
