Ballia Youth Found Dead After Alleged Family Scolding; Kanpur Surgeon Suicide Revisited

A 21-year-old e-rickshaw driver was found dead in Ballia after his father allegedly scolded him, while a separate Kanpur case involves a government surgeon who died by suicide following a reported marital dispute.

A 21-year-old e-rickshaw driver was found hanging from a tree in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district on Wednesday, with police suspecting that an incident involving his father’s scolding two days earlier may have contributed to his death. The incident comes alongside details of a separate suicide case involving a 47-year-old government general surgeon in Kanpur following an alleged dispute with his wife.

In Ballia, the body of Abhishek Kumar, who worked as an e-rickshaw driver, was found hanging from a tree in the Garwar police station area on Wednesday morning. Police provided the information on Wednesday, stating that the young man had allegedly been distressed after being scolded by his father.

Station House Officer (SHO) Hitesh Kumar said police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The police took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

According to the officer, Abhishek’s father had scolded him two days earlier for not following the advice of family members. Police suspect that the incident may have contributed to the youth taking the extreme step. Further investigation into the case is underway.

Hearing the sound of the gunshot, his wife, Kanchan, rushed into the room and found him lying in a pool of blood. Family members immediately took him to Regency Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

After receiving information about the incident, police and a forensic team reached the spot. The revolver was seized, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

According to Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal, the preliminary investigation suggests that the suicide may have resulted from a dispute with his wife and persistent differences between the couple.

The deceased’s father, Raj Bahadur Singh, said Sandeep had been living separately with his second wife, Kanchan, and their two children. He added that he often intervened to resolve minor disputes between the couple.

Sandeep’s cousin, Mohit Singh, said the surgeon had married a doctor for the first time in 2007. That marriage ended in divorce in 2018, and he married Kanchan in 2019.

Police are continuing a detailed investigation into the Kanpur case. Further action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the investigation.
