Maharashtra Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert as Heat and Humidity Intensify in Konkan
Maharashtra Weather Update: IMD issues a yellow alert for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri on October 13 as heat and humidity intensify, with temperatures crossing 38 degrees Celsius in parts of the state.
Maximum temperatures across Maharashtra have been rising steadily, with mercury levels crossing 37 degrees Celsius in several parts of the state. The heat has been intense since the morning, making it increasingly uncomfortable for residents to venture outdoors during the afternoon. Rising humidity and oppressive conditions have also led to excessive sweating, adding to the discomfort.
The IMD has forecast hotter and more humid conditions on October 13 in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts of the Konkan region. With temperatures climbing alongside high humidity, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for these areas, advising residents to remain alert.
Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation has developed over the South Andaman Sea and its surrounding areas. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal. At the same time, the southwest monsoon is in the process of withdrawing from almost the entire country. According to the IMD, the monsoon is expected to withdraw completely from the country within the next two to three days, while the northeast monsoon is likely to become active over southern India.
The intensity of the heat was reflected in temperature readings recorded during the 24 hours up to the morning of Monday, October 12. Ratnagiri recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 38.3 degrees Celsius. Amravati followed at 38.2 degrees Celsius, while Akola recorded 38.1 degrees Celsius and Santacruz registered 38 degrees Celsius.
Other locations also recorded temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius, including Yavatmal at 37.7 degrees Celsius, Solapur at 37.6 degrees Celsius and Jalgaon at 37.1 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the lowest temperature in the state was recorded at the Agricultural College in Dhule, where the mercury dropped to 17.5 degrees Celsius.
With rainfall having largely retreated and temperatures remaining high across several districts, the IMD's yellow alert highlights the need for caution in the Konkan region, particularly in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri, where hot and humid conditions are expected to persist.
