IIT Jammu Awards 420 Degrees at 7th Convocation, Unveils Sculpture for Class of 2026

IIT Jammu conferred 420 degrees at its 7th Convocation Ceremony, honoured top-performing graduates with prestigious medals and unveiled ‘Antardṛṣṭi’, a sculpture dedicated to the graduating class of 2026.

The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu celebrated its 7th Convocation Ceremony, conferring 420 degrees and recognising outstanding academic achievements as graduates prepared to begin the next phase of their lives. Held at the IIT Jammu campus, the ceremony brought together distinguished guests, faculty members, graduating students and their families to mark a milestone in the Institute’s academic journey, research contributions and commitment to nation-building.

The degrees awarded included 209 B.Tech, 124 M.Tech, 23 M.Sc. and 64 Ph.D. degrees, reflecting the Institute’s contributions to higher education and research.

Dr. Shankar M. Venugopal, Vice President, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Mahindra Research Valley, attended as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Amitabh Ranjan, Vice Chairman, Pan IIT Alumni India, was the Guest of Honour.

Addressing the graduating students, Dr. Venugopal encouraged them to embrace opportunities emerging in a world being reshaped by technology and innovation. He urged them to maintain their connection with IIT Jammu and contribute to the Institute’s growth as mentors, collaborators and ambassadors. Reflecting on their time at the Institute, he encouraged the graduates to value the experiences and relationships they had developed and draw strength from them while navigating future challenges. He also highlighted India’s potential to turn challenges into opportunities through innovation, determination and collective effort.

Dr. Amitabh Ranjan congratulated the graduating students and underscored the importance of remaining connected with the IIT ecosystem and contributing to the wider community. He encouraged them to carry forward the values, knowledge and spirit of excellence developed at IIT Jammu as they embarked on their professional journeys.

In his address, Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu, congratulated the graduating class and highlighted the importance of curiosity, resilience and purpose in building meaningful careers and lives. He encouraged the graduates to pursue lifelong learning, create value through their work and ensure that their knowledge and innovations make a meaningful contribution to society. He also urged them to remain connected to their roots, explore new paths with courage, and nurture friendships and relationships beyond professional networks.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of ‘Antardṛṣṭi’, meaning “inner vision”, a sculpture dedicated to the graduating class of 2026. The artwork symbolises the moment before departure, when clarity must come from within before an individual steps into the wider world. It conveys a message of self-trust, courage and aspiration as graduates begin the next chapter of their lives.

The sculpture also serves as a reminder to look inward when the path ahead appears uncertain, dream beyond the limits set by others and move forward with confidence even when the journey presents challenges.

The convocation also recognised academic excellence through the presentation of prestigious medals to students who achieved outstanding results in their respective programmes.

Vivek Kumar Shandilya of the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering received the President Gold Medal for securing the highest CGPA among all B.Tech graduates. Ayush Raj of the Department of Chemical Engineering was awarded the Director Gold Medal for the best overall performance.

Mohammad Shamsul Haq, pursuing M.Tech in Civil Engineering, received the Institute Gold Medal for securing the highest CGPA among graduating M.Tech students. Sheikh Aabid Nisar, an M.Sc. student in Chemistry, was awarded the Institute Gold Medal for achieving the highest CGPA among graduating M.Sc. students.

The Institute Silver Medals were presented to students who secured the highest CGPA in their respective disciplines. Among the B.Tech programmes, the recipients were Ayush Raj in Chemical Engineering, Khushboo in Civil Engineering, Chaitanya Tandon in Computer Science and Engineering, Nageshwar Kumar in Electrical Engineering, and Harshit Beri in Mechanical Engineering.

In the postgraduate programmes, the Institute Silver Medals went to Shivangi Sharma for M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Anshu Kumari for M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Sandeep Kumar for M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Binod Kumar for M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, and Akshita for M.Sc. in Physics.

The 7th Convocation Ceremony marked an important milestone for IIT Jammu, combining the conferment of 420 degrees with the recognition of academic distinction and the unveiling of a sculpture dedicated to the graduating class of 2026. As the graduates move into the next stage of their lives, the Institute extended its congratulations and best wishes for their future endeavours, expressing confidence that they would use their knowledge, resilience and sense of purpose to contribute meaningfully to society while carrying forward IIT Jammu’s values.
