Pakistan Avoids Series Defeat as West Indies Draw Test Series 1-1 After 8-Wicket Win

The victory also brought a small boost for Pakistan in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2026) points table. In the ongoing 2025-27 WTC cycle, this was Pakistan’s second win so far. The result helped Pakistan move up one place in the rankings, with the team now positioned at eighth place.

Pakistan has played six Test matches in the current WTC cycle, winning two games and losing four. Before the second Test against West Indies, Pakistan was placed at the bottom of the points table. Following the victory, the team moved up one position, while its win percentage increased to 22.22.

West Indies, who suffered defeat in the second Test against Pakistan, dropped one position in the latest WTC standings and moved to ninth place. The Caribbean side has registered only two victories from 12 Test matches, while losing eight games. West Indies currently has a win percentage of 20.83.

In the second Test, West Indies scored 344 runs in the first innings. In response, Pakistan posted 387 runs, powered by Abdullah Shafique’s impressive century of 160 runs, taking a crucial 43-run first-innings lead.

However, West Indies’ batting collapsed in the second innings as the entire team was bowled out for just 117 runs. Five of their batters failed to reach double figures. Pakistan’s spin duo Ali Usman and Sajid Khan played a key role, taking four wickets each.

Chasing a target of 75 runs, Pakistan comfortably reached the mark after losing two wickets. Captain Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 24 runs, while Abdullah Shafique also finished unbeaten with 24 runs. Ajan Awai contributed 18 runs, and Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed after scoring nine runs.

With this win, Pakistan registered an away Test victory after three years. Before this, Pakistan’s last overseas Test victory came against Sri Lanka in July 2023. The 1-1 drawn series allowed Pakistan to avoid a setback in the current ICC World Test Championship cycle while West Indies suffered a setback in the latest standings.
