President Approves One-Year Extension for Central University of Haryana Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar

The Ministry of Education has approved a one-year extension of Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar's tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Haryana from July 28, 2026. Granted by the President of India under the Central Universities Act, 2009, the extension recognises the University's achievements in global rankings, research, innovation, infrastructure, National Education Policy implementation, and community engagement.

 

Mahendergarh, July 21, 2026: The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar as the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh. The extension has been granted by the Hon'ble President of India, acting in her capacity as the Visitor of the University, under the powers conferred by the Central Universities Act, 2009.

Registrar Prof. Suneel Kumar informed that the extension will come into effect from July 28, 2026, and will remain valid for one year, until the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The order was issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, on July 20, 2026.

The extension follows a tenure marked by significant academic, research, administrative, and institutional achievements under the leadership of Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar. During his tenure, the Central University of Haryana has strengthened its academic standards, accelerated research and innovation, expanded infrastructure, improved national and international rankings, and enhanced its social outreach. The University has also successfully implemented the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 by promoting quality teaching, learning, multidisciplinary education, and industry-academia collaboration.

The University achieved major global recognition by making its debut in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, securing a position in the 1001–1200 global band and emerging as one of the leading universities in Haryana. It also entered the QS World University Rankings 2026 for the first time, securing a place in the 1001–1100 global band. The institution earned recognition among India's leading higher education institutions in the Citations per Paper indicator for research excellence. Further strengthening its international academic profile, the University was placed in the 301–350 band in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026 and also delivered a strong performance among Central Universities in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework rankings.

Research and innovation witnessed remarkable progress during the tenure of Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar. The University secured research projects worth several crores of rupees from various national funding agencies while significantly strengthening its Centre for Innovation and Incubation. The institution also promoted industry-academia partnerships, startup culture, patent development, and technology-driven innovation. Faculty members and researchers made notable contributions in healthcare, biotechnology, environmental sciences, agriculture, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

The University also recorded substantial progress in infrastructure development with the establishment of world-class facilities, including a Synthetic Athletics Track, advanced laboratories, an Advanced E-Mobility Laboratory, environmental research facilities, and modern library resources. These developments created a stronger ecosystem for teaching, research, innovation, and sports, enabling students to compete successfully at national and international levels.

In line with the National Education Policy 2020, the University actively promoted multidisciplinary education, skill development, entrepreneurship, Indian Knowledge Systems, and research-oriented learning. It signed numerous Memoranda of Understanding with national and international universities, industries, research organisations, and government institutions, creating wider opportunities for students and scholars in academics, research, internships, and professional development.

The University also strengthened its commitment to social responsibility through initiatives focused on environmental conservation, rural development, women's empowerment, health awareness, digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness, cleanliness, yoga, drug de-addiction, and community engagement. With active participation from the National Service Scheme, National Cadet Corps, and various academic departments, the institution consistently conducted programmes addressing important social and developmental issues.

Expressing gratitude after receiving the extension, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar thanked the Hon'ble President of India, the Ministry of Education, and the entire University community for their confidence and support. He described the extension as recognition of the collective dedication and hard work of the University's faculty members, officers, non-teaching staff, students, research scholars, alumni, and partner institutions.

Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar reaffirmed the University's commitment to achieving new milestones in quality education, high-impact research, innovation, global competitiveness, and socially relevant higher education. He expressed confidence that the continued cooperation of the entire University fraternity would enable the Central University of Haryana to script a new chapter of academic excellence and strengthen its position among leading national and global institutions.
