Flash Floods Devastate Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey District, Bridges Washed Away Amid Heavy Monsoon Rainfall
Severe flash floods caused by continuous monsoon rainfall devastated Parsi Parlo in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district. Bridges connecting Huri, Damin and Pagam Village were washed away, houses were damaged, the Baptist Church was destroyed, and road communication with the ITBP camp was disrupted.
At least three districts of Arunachal Pradesh, including Kurung Kumey, Kamle and Pakke Kessang, were affected by flash floods following intense rainfall during the night. The heavy downpour caused the Kumey River to overflow its banks, leading to severe flooding in several areas.
The flooding occurred during the early hours after incessant rainfall caused the Parsi Parlo River to rise rapidly, inundating residential areas and public infrastructure. Heavy rainfall in the upper ridges of the Kumey River further intensified the situation, resulting in large-scale flash flooding.
The disaster caused significant damage in the Parsi-Parlo Circle and Damin Sub-Division of Kurung Kumey district. The bridge connecting Huri to Damin was washed away, disrupting road connectivity in the region. A bridge providing access to Pagam Village was also destroyed in the floodwaters.
Two houses suffered partial damage, while the Baptist Church was completely destroyed due to the impact of the floods. The collapse of the bridge also cut off road communication with the ITBP camp, severely affecting movement and connectivity.
The incident has caused major disruption to transportation networks, public infrastructure and residential properties across the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the district administration has remained in constant coordination with paramilitary forces, police personnel, local residents and other stakeholders for damage assessment and relief operations.
The extensive flash flooding highlights the severe impact of relentless monsoon rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, with damaged bridges and disrupted connectivity creating significant challenges for residents and authorities engaged in emergency response efforts.
