Christopher Nolan and Matt Damon Explore Mumbai's Iconic Trishna Restaurant During 'The Odyssey' India Premiere
Christopher Nolan and Matt Damon visited Mumbai's iconic Trishna restaurant during the Indian premiere of The Odyssey. The celebrated seafood destination, known for its legendary butter garlic crab and coastal cuisine, has welcomed global celebrities for decades and remains one of Mumbai's most recognised culinary landmarks.
In a post shared on Trishna's official Instagram page, Christopher Nolan and Matt Damon were seen with Ruchit Anchan, the restaurant's co-owner. The duo was in Mumbai alongside Tom Holland for the Indian premiere of The Odyssey at PVR ICON IMAX, Phoenix Palladium. The two-day premiere event was held on July 10 and July 11, ahead of the film's worldwide release on July 17.
Located in the historic Kala Ghoda district, Trishna has remained one of Mumbai's most iconic dining destinations for decades. The restaurant is widely known for serving authentic coastal seafood and has long attracted celebrities, politicians, business leaders, and international visitors. Despite its understated interiors, the restaurant is consistently crowded with diners eager to experience its signature crab dishes and traditional coastal cuisine. It currently holds a 4.6-star rating based on thousands of customer reviews and is regarded as an essential destination for seafood enthusiasts visiting the city.
Trishna officially opened in April 1991 after the renovation of the pre-independence Matrebhoomi Lunch Home, which had previously operated as an affordable lunch establishment. Following its transformation into Trishna Restaurant, the dining institution built its reputation around two signature preparations that became synonymous with its name: butter pepper garlic crab and Koliwada prawns. Both dishes reflect the rich culinary traditions of the Mangalorean and Goan coasts.
The restaurant's reputation has continued to grow over the decades. When Mumbai received its first Michelin Guide in 2024, Trishna was among the establishments recognised. It also earned a place on the 50 Best Discovery List in 2022 and secured the eleventh position in the CNTraveller Top Restaurant Awards in 2017.
For more than thirty-three years, Trishna has remained at its original Fort-area location while the surrounding neighbourhood has evolved into one of Mumbai's most prestigious dining districts. Its legendary butter garlic crab continues to be regarded as one of the city's defining seafood dishes. Other renowned offerings include Hyderabadi Pomfret, Crab Chettinad, Jumbo Crab, Squid Koliwada, Prawn Gassi, Bombay Duck Fry, and Dal Hyderabadi.
Over the years, Trishna has welcomed an impressive list of distinguished guests, including members of the Kapoor family, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Brett Lee, as well as numerous politicians, industrialists, and international visitors. Christopher Nolan's latest visit further strengthens the restaurant's reputation as one of Mumbai's most celebrated culinary institutions, reinforcing its enduring appeal among globally recognised personalities while highlighting its lasting significance in India's dining landscape.
