Indian High School Team Achieves Historic Gold Sweep at International Physics Olympiad

India's high school physics team achieved a historic gold medal sweep at the 56th International Physics Olympiad held in Colombia from July 4 to 12. Kanishk Jain, Riddhesh Anant Bendale, Rishit Garg, Shresth Suraiya, and Svarit Joshi secured top honours, placing India among global leaders in physics education and competition.

India has achieved a remarkable milestone at the 56th International Physics Olympiad held in Colombia from July 4 to July 12, as its entire high school team secured gold medals across all categories of participation. The achievement placed India alongside China, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Korea, and Taiwan as joint leaders in the global competition.

The Indian team comprising Kanishk Jain, Riddhesh Anant Bendale, Rishit Garg, Shresth Suraiya, and Svarit Joshi delivered outstanding performances in advanced physics challenges covering mechanics, electromagnetism, and quantum physics.

This marks India's second complete gold medal sweep at the International Physics Olympiad, following its previous achievement in 2018. The accomplishment continues a decade-long record in which every Indian participant at the competition has secured either a gold or silver medal.

The team members were selected and trained through the national examination and preparation programmes conducted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education under the Department of Atomic Energy. The rigorous training process prepared the students to compete at the highest international level in complex areas of physics.
