Gautam Gambhir’s Support Staff Faces Possible Changes After India’s Recent Struggles
India’s cricket team may witness changes in Gautam Gambhir’s support staff after a disappointing run on the Ireland and England tours. Reports suggest two members could leave, with one linked to an IPL franchise. BCCI will hold a review meeting after the England tour to discuss recent defeats and the 2027 World Cup roadmap.
According to reports, two members of Gautam Gambhir’s support staff could part ways with the Indian team. Although no names have been revealed, it has been claimed that one member is already in contact with an Indian Premier League franchise and may join the organisation soon. Another member of the support staff is also reportedly considering a move away from the national team.
The support staff had signed a two-plus-one-year contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Under the agreement, after the completion of the initial two years, the contract can be extended for another year if both the board and the coaching staff agree. However, reports suggest that at least one coach from the support staff has already started discussions with an IPL franchise that has a presence across several countries and could soon take up a new role with the organisation.
The possibility of another support staff member leaving the Indian team has also emerged, with indications that the individual may take up a different responsibility in the near future.
Reports have also highlighted differences between the head coach and the selectors. The disagreement is believed to have started not because of the latest performances but after India suffered a home Test series defeat against South Africa last year.
Gautam Gambhir took charge after the 2024 T20 World Cup during India’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Under his leadership, India faced defeat in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Later, New Zealand created history by winning a Test series in India for the first time, while India also lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during the Australia tour.
However, during Gambhir’s tenure, India achieved major successes by winning the Champions Trophy 2025, Asia Cup 2025 and T20 World Cup 2026.
Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the board will conduct a review meeting after the England tour concludes on July 19. The meeting is expected to discuss the two recent T20 series defeats and may also focus on preparing a roadmap for the 2027 World Cup.
The upcoming review meeting is expected to play a crucial role in determining the future direction of India’s coaching structure and long-term cricket strategy.
