Nesco Ground Drug Overdose Case: Police File 3,500-Page Chargesheet Naming 12 Accused, Twin Brother of Key Accused Arrested
Mumbai Police have filed a 3,500-page chargesheet in the Nesco Ground drug overdose case involving the deaths of two MBA students. Twelve accused have been named, the twin brother of a key accused has been arrested, and investigators are probing an alleged international MDMA supply network.
The chargesheet contains statements from around 110 witnesses, including classmates of the deceased students, friends present at the event, security personnel, event organisers, and individuals allegedly linked to the drug network.
Following the filing of the chargesheet, police arrested Nitesh alias Nick Khemalani, the twin brother of key accused Mahesh alias Mark Khemalani. According to police officials, evidence of suspicious financial links between Nick and previously arrested accused persons was found during the investigation into monetary transactions. Based on these findings, he was taken into custody.
A local court has sent Nitesh Khemalani to police custody until July 13. Investigating agencies are now questioning him to gather details about the funding of the drug syndicate, its financial network, and other associates involved in the operation. With this arrest, the total number of arrested accused persons in the case has increased to 14.
Foreign-Origin MDMA Supply Network Under Investigation
The investigation has revealed that the banned MDMA drugs allegedly supplied at the concert were reportedly smuggled into India from abroad. Last week, police arrested 23-year-old Deepesh Hemwani from Ulhasnagar in Thane. Investigators alleged that a delivery of foreign-origin drugs was received at his address.
After questioning, Deepesh Hemwani was sent to judicial custody. Police stated that the main supplier of the network and another accused are still absconding, and continuous raids are being conducted to trace them.
The incident took place on April 11, when around 3,000 to 4,000 students from a reputed management institute in South Mumbai attended a techno music concert organised at Nesco Ground in Goregaon. During the event, MBA student Shreya Rai, aged 24, Bismat Singh Amarjit Singh Bhasin, aged 28, and their friend Sheetal Salvi suddenly fell ill.
Shreya Rai and Bismat Singh Amarjit Singh Bhasin died during treatment at a hospital, while Sheetal Salvi recovered after receiving medical care and was discharged.
Police officials stated that the evidence collected so far has provided several important leads into an international drug network. The search for the absconding accused continues, with investigators expecting further revelations as the probe progresses in the high-profile case.
