Wangchuk’s Hunger Strike Enters Day 11 as Exam Protest Intensifies Against Testing Agency Failures
Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike enters day 11 during protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party over NEET-UG 2026 paper leaks, UGC-NET issues, and National Testing Agency failures. The protest demanding accountability from Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan continues amid health concerns and growing public attention.
The protesters have demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing the authorities of failing to address concerns surrounding major competitive examinations. Wangchuk joined the protest on June 28 and has continued his hunger strike despite his declining health condition.
By July 7, Wangchuk had lost more than 6 kg, bringing his weight down to 61 kg. He was reported to have low blood pressure and glucose levels, while remaining mentally alert during the protest. Videos showing him struggling to walk have raised concerns about his health as the hunger strike continues.
Dharmendra Pradhan described the protesters as a “B-team of disruptive elements” while stating that he had taken moral responsibility over the situation. The sit-in protest has attracted supporters, but it has also faced criticism regarding attendance levels and questions surrounding leadership participation in the hunger strike.
The ongoing protest has emerged as a significant confrontation between student-led demands and government responses over examination management issues. With Wangchuk continuing his hunger strike despite health challenges, the movement remains focused on accountability and reforms linked to national-level competitive examinations.
