Security Tightened at Delhi's Jantar Mantar Ahead of Anti-Reservation Protest
Security was tightened at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Friday ahead of a proposed anti-reservation protest. Police removed people who gathered without permission and deployed personnel and barricades around the protest site.
Some people gathered at the protest site in the morning, but police immediately removed them as no permission had been granted for holding the demonstration, according to the sources.
Security personnel were deployed at key points around Jantar Mantar, while barricades were put in place to prevent any unauthorised gathering, the sources said.
Police personnel were also keeping a close watch on movement towards the protest site and checking people entering the area, they added. The sources said police were maintaining strict vigil and would not allow any gathering without prior permission.
The protest was called by “Reservation Hatao Andolan”, an Instagram-based page. The digital campaign subsequently called for a physical, anti-reservation protest at Jantar Mantar on Friday.
