General Dhiraj Seth Assumes Office as India's 31st Army Chief, Succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi

General Seth succeeds General Upendra Dwivedi, whose two-year tenure as Army Chief extended from June 2024 to June 2026. During his leadership, General Dwivedi oversaw several critical military responsibilities, including Operation Sindoor, an 88-hour precision counter-terrorism operation conducted in May 2025. The operation demonstrated the Indian Army's capability to execute swift and targeted military action against terrorist threats.

On completing his tenure, General Dwivedi described serving the nation as the greatest privilege of his life. He also commended the Indian Army for maintaining constant vigilance along the country's borders and acknowledged the dedication and professionalism of its personnel in safeguarding national security.

As the new Army Chief, General Dhiraj Seth brings extensive operational and strategic experience gained through commanding major military formations, including the Sudarshan Chakra Corps and the South Western Command. His appointment comes at a time when the Indian Army continues to strengthen its operational preparedness while addressing evolving security challenges along the nation's borders.

General Seth is expected to lead the Army's ongoing transformation with a strong focus on achieving greater self-reliance in defence capabilities, accelerating the adoption of advanced drone technology, and enhancing preparedness for multi-domain operations.
