Esri India and Delhi Technological University Join Hands to Establish GeoAI Centre of Excellence

Esri India and Delhi Technological University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Centre of Excellence in Geospatial Technologies with a focus on GeoAI. The initiative will strengthen education, research, curriculum development, faculty training, internships, and industry-ready skills using ArcGIS technology for future geospatial professionals across India.

In a significant step towards strengthening geospatial education and research in India, Esri India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Delhi Technological University to establish a Centre of Excellence in Geospatial Technologies with a dedicated focus on GeoAI. The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between industry requirements and academic education by equipping future engineers, researchers, and data scientists with advanced Geographic Information System and GeoAI skills through Esri's globally recognised technology platform.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding, Esri India will support the Department of Geospatial Science and Technology at Delhi Technological University in establishing the Centre of Excellence using the globally renowned ArcGIS software platform. The Centre will provide access to extensive learning resources and geospatial content through the ArcGIS Living Atlas. As part of the collaboration, Esri India will enable the development of applied GeoAI solutions, organise Faculty Development Programs, and facilitate merit-based internships for students.

Delhi Technological University, one of India's leading technological institutions, has established expertise in Geospatial Sciences and Technologies, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Space Applications. Through this partnership, the university plans to develop new academic curricula for its upcoming undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive programmes while strengthening its existing courses using the Indo ArcGIS platform.

Agendra Kumar, Managing Director of Esri India, said that geospatial intelligence and Artificial Intelligence are rapidly converging, creating an urgent need for a highly skilled workforce capable of delivering real-world solutions. He stated that the partnership with Delhi Technological University through the Centre of Excellence reflects Esri India's commitment to integrating GeoAI into mainstream academic education. He added that the collaboration will help build capabilities that will influence urban planning, resource management, and future development across India.

Professor Prateek Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Delhi Technological University, welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and expressed confidence that the partnership would become a landmark example of successful industry-academia collaboration. He said the initiative could inspire similar collaborations in the coming years. He outlined the vision of the Department of Geospatial Science and Technology, stating that the department aims to become a global leader in geospatial education, research, and consultancy.

Professor Sharma further announced that the department intends to introduce executive Master's programmes in Geoinformatics along with undergraduate programmes in Geospatial Science and Geoinformatics. He emphasised that the geospatial sector should not only focus on technological advancement but also strengthen Geospatial and Space Sciences. He added that Delhi Technological University aims to emerge as a national leader in establishing Geospatial Science and Technology as an independent academic discipline.

With ArcGIS serving as the technological foundation of the Centre of Excellence, students and researchers at Delhi Technological University will gain practical exposure to emerging technologies as well as industry-standard solutions already being used by government agencies, urban planners, defence establishments, and environmental organisations across the country. The partnership represents a major milestone in advancing GeoAI education, research, and industry-ready skill development, reinforcing India's growing focus on geospatial innovation and technological excellence.
