Shashi Tharoor-Led Parliamentary Panel to Review India-China and India-Pakistan Relations Ahead of Strategic Visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Shashi Tharoor, will receive a briefing from the Ministry of External Affairs before its June 22-25 visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The panel will examine India-China relations, border issues and recent developments in India-Pakistan ties, while another Parliamentary committee has reviewed the impact of West Asian geopolitical developments on India's road infrastructure sector.

 

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, is scheduled to convene at 4:30 pm on Friday at the Parliament House Annexe to receive a pre-departure briefing from the Ministry of External Affairs ahead of its upcoming study visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Officials of the Ministry of External Affairs will brief members of the Committee before the field visit planned from June 22 to June 25. According to the agenda, the Committee will deliberate on the subject "Understanding India-China Relations and the Way Forward", with special emphasis on the India-China border. It will also discuss "Recent Developments in India-Pakistan Relations", with a specific focus on the India-Pakistan border.

The study visit has been designed to provide members of the Parliamentary panel with first-hand insights into strategic and security-related issues in the border regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, particularly in the context of India's relations with China and Pakistan.

During the visit, the Committee will cover key locations including Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil and Leh. Members are expected to interact with stakeholders and assess developments on the ground in these strategically important areas.

Earlier, on June 15, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture held discussions at the Parliament House Annexe Extension regarding the impact of geopolitical developments in West Asia on India's road infrastructure sector.

The meeting was chaired by Janata Dal (United) National Working President and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, Sanjay Kumar Jha. The Committee held detailed discussions with the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on the subject titled "Impact of Geopolitical Developments in West Asia on India's Road Infrastructure Sector."
