Election Commission Launches Phase-III Electoral Roll Revision Across 16 States and 3 Union Territories

The Election Commission of India has announced the Phase-III schedule of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 16 states and 3 Union Territories. More than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers will verify details of 36.73 crore electors through house-to-house visits as part of a nationwide voter verification campaign aimed at ensuring transparency and accuracy in electoral rolls.

 

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 16 states and three Union Territories, significantly expanding the nationwide voter verification exercise aimed at ensuring the accuracy and transparency of electoral records.

The Election Commission stated that the Phase-III schedule was prepared in accordance with the common field machinery engaged in the ongoing house-listing work under the Census exercise. With the latest expansion, the Special Intensive Revision will now cover almost the entire country, excluding Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The poll body said the schedule for these regions will be announced later after assessing the completion of Phase-II of the Census exercise and considering weather conditions in snow-bound and upper mountainous areas.

As part of the extensive voter verification campaign, more than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house visits to verify the details of 36.73 crore electors during the Enumeration Phase. The officers will be assisted by nearly 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by various political parties.

Describing the revision process as a participative exercise, the Election Commission said the initiative involves electors, political parties, and election officials to ensure transparency and accuracy in electoral rolls. The poll body urged all political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents at every polling booth to strengthen participation in the revision exercise.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar appealed to citizens to actively participate in the verification process and submit their Enumeration Forms during the revision drive.

“I appeal to all electors to enthusiastically participate in Phase III of Special Intensive Revision and fill their Enumeration Forms. The Special Intensive Revision is being conducted to ensure that only eligible voters are included in the Electoral Roll and no ineligible names are included,” the Chief Election Commissioner said.

The Election Commission also released details of the first two phases of the Special Intensive Revision conducted across 13 states and Union Territories. According to the poll body, nearly 59 crore electors were covered during the first two phases. More than 6.3 lakh Booth Level Officers and 9.2 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties participated in various stages of the electoral roll revision process.

The third phase of the Special Intensive Revision will be conducted in Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Delhi, Nagaland, and Tripura.

According to the official schedule issued by the Election Commission, house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers in Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Manipur will be conducted from May 30, 2026, to June 28, 2026. In Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, the exercise will take place from June 4 to July 3, 2026, while Uttarakhand will undergo the verification process from June 8 to July 7, 2026.

For Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Chandigarh, the verification drive will be conducted from June 15 to July 14, 2026. Telangana and Punjab will witness the exercise from June 25 to July 24, 2026. Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi will undergo house-to-house verification from June 30 to July 29, 2026.

In Nagaland, the electoral roll revision exercise will be conducted from August 16 to September 14, 2026, while Tripura will witness house-to-house verification from September 15 to October 14, 2026.

The large-scale revision exercise marks one of the most extensive electoral verification campaigns undertaken by the Election Commission, with crores of voters, lakhs of election officials, and political representatives participating in a nationwide effort to ensure that only eligible citizens remain enrolled in the country’s electoral rolls.
