According to a report published by The Indian Express, Diljit Dosanjh allegedly acquired United States citizenship in 2022 and has reportedly been travelling on a United States passport since September of that year. The report further claims that whenever he visits India, he does so using an electronic visa.
It is also stated that his last Indian passport was issued in Mumbai in 2018, while an earlier passport had been issued in Zambia. The report additionally claims that at the time of acquiring United States citizenship, Dosanjh had listed a five-bedroom bungalow in California as his residential address. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, is also reported to be a United States citizen.
As per the same report, the artist has not issued any public clarification or response regarding these claims.
Separately, speculation regarding a possible political role for Dosanjh emerged after a Punjabi Tribune publication questioned whether he could become a future political face of Punjab. Following this, a group of civil society activists, including retired military personnel, reportedly urged him to enter politics.
Responding to the appeal on the social media platform X, Dosanjh firmly declined any political ambitions, stating in English that he will never enter politics, emphasizing that his profession is entertainment and that he is satisfied continuing his work in acting and singing.
