The Indian Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned the targeting of civilians and critical infrastructure, calling the incident “unacceptable” and urging an immediate cessation of hostilities. Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the attack on Fujairah, which resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals, was unacceptable and emphasized the urgent need to halt attacks on civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians. The government also reiterated its position on maintaining free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, while expressing readiness to support diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution in the region.
The drone strike on the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone is the first such incident since the ceasefire between Iran and the United States in April. The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence confirmed that its air defence systems intercepted multiple missiles and drones during the attack. Despite these interceptions, authorities reported a large fire at the Fujairah oil port along with the injuries.
The situation reflects a breakdown of the fragile ceasefire, as Iran reportedly launched missiles and drones targeting the United Arab Emirates for the first time since April. The United States Embassy in the United Arab Emirates issued a security alert warning its citizens of potential aerial threats and advising heightened vigilance.
The attack underscores the growing instability in West Asia and highlights the risks to civilian lives, global energy infrastructure, and international maritime routes.
