GSRTC Restructures Premium AC Bus Services, Diverts Major Routes Through Expressways, Reduces Fares and Travel Time
The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation has rerouted premium AC bus services via expressways, reducing fares and travel time on key corridors including Ahmedabad–Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad–Surat. The overhaul introduces faster schedules, cost savings, and expanded connectivity across major intercity routes in Gujarat.
Under the revised arrangement, all premium AC buses operating between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar will now be routed through the newly constructed Ahmedabad–Dholera Express Highway. According to the corporation, this strategic diversion is expected to significantly reduce travel time while also cutting operational expenses, a portion of which has been directly passed on to passengers in the form of reduced fares.
As part of the updated schedule, a total of 24 daily trips will operate between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar at hourly intervals from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., with all services on this route now running via the expressway from both ends. Services operating on the Gandhinagar–Diu and Gandhinagar–Mahuva routes have also been integrated into the same expressway corridor, extending the impact of the revised operational model.
With the new routing structure in place, the Ahmedabad–Bhavnagar fare has been reduced to Rs 336, reflecting a saving of approximately Rs 15 per journey for passengers.
In a separate development, the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation has also introduced a new premium bus service operating on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. This service has been launched as a non-stop premium connection between Nehrunagar in Ahmedabad and Surat. The morning departure from Nehrunagar is scheduled at 6:45 a.m., while the return service from Surat departs at 1 p.m. The revised route has fixed the fare at Rs 687, offering an estimated saving of around Rs 61 per journey compared to earlier services.
The corporation stated that the introduction of services on the expressway network is intended to maximise the use of upgraded national infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel durations across major intercity routes in Gujarat.
All tickets for these premium services are available through advance online booking via the official Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation mobile application and booking platforms. The corporation has encouraged passengers to adopt digital reservation systems to access the revised services efficiently.
The move marks a significant operational shift in state-run premium bus services, reflecting a broader push toward expressway-based transit optimisation, improved passenger convenience, and cost-effective intercity mobility across Gujarat’s key transport corridors.
