MODI AND NORWAY PRIME MINISTER ELEVATE TIES TO GREEN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP IN OSLO

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre elevated India-Norway relations to a Green Strategic Partnership in Oslo during talks on May 18, focusing on clean energy, green shipping, innovation, and large-scale investment potential. The initiative aims to generate major economic and employment opportunities over 15 years while strengthening bilateral cooperation and sustainable development goals.

During high-level delegation talks held on May 18 in Oslo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre significantly elevated bilateral relations by announcing a Green Strategic Partnership focused on clean energy, green shipping, innovation, and related sectors.

The discussions marked a major expansion in cooperation between India and Norway, with both leaders aligning their vision on sustainable development and long-term economic collaboration. The partnership framework is projected to unlock approximately 100 billion United States dollars in investments and generate nearly one million jobs over a period of 15 years, reflecting the scale of ambition attached to the initiative.

At a business summit held alongside the official engagements, Prime Minister Modi urged Norwegian companies to expand their presence in India. He emphasized that deeper economic engagement would deliver broader global benefits while strengthening bilateral economic ties between the two nations.

Following the joint statements issued by both leaders, a moment of disruption occurred when a Norwegian journalist shouted questions in an attempt to elicit responses, drawing mixed reactions. The incident highlighted contrasting media engagement norms between India and Norway, adding a notable dimension to the otherwise formal diplomatic proceedings.
