Twisha Sharma Found Dead at In-Laws’ Residence Amid Dowry Harassment Allegations; Husband Declared Absconding
Twisha Sharma, an MBA graduate and former Miss Pune contestant, was found dead at her in-laws’ home in Bhopal amid dowry harassment allegations. Police have booked her husband and mother-in-law, a retired judge, for abetment to suicide. The husband is absconding as investigation continues under a Special Investigation Team.
According to the family of the deceased, Twisha Sharma was subjected to sustained dowry-related harassment and physical abuse, including alleged violence during her honeymoon period. The family has further alleged that she was pressured to terminate a pregnancy, which they claim contributed to her death on May 12. They have termed the incident a staged murder disguised as suicide.
Police authorities have registered cases of abetment to suicide and dowry-related demands against Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, a retired judge. A Special Investigation Team has been constituted to conduct a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities have also announced a reward for information leading to the arrest of Samarth Singh, who is currently absconding.
In response to the allegations, Giribala Singh has denied wrongdoing and claimed that Twisha Sharma was suffering from schizophrenia and had independently sought termination of the pregnancy. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased, led by her brother, an Indian Army Major, has intensified demands for a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry and has refused to permit cremation until justice is ensured.
The case has escalated into a broader confrontation between the two families, with the bereaved family staging protests and seeking higher-level investigation into the incident, while legal proceedings and police investigation remain ongoing.
The words of Twisha Sharma’s father have resonated widely amid the controversy: “A divorced daughter is better than a dead one,” reflecting the profound grief and anguish surrounding the case.
