Jamtara’s Devasi Hembrom Clinches Gold at International Air Gun Shooting Championship in Thailand Despite Severe Resource Constraints
Devasi Hembrom from Jamtara, Jharkhand, wins gold at an international air gun shooting championship in Thailand held from May 4 to May 7. Despite financial hardship and lack of modern equipment, she continues to excel, having also won gold at the national championship in Goa, and appeals for better training facilities and government support to achieve further success for India.
Coming from a modest background, Devasi’s father is engaged in agricultural labor to support the household. Despite persistent financial hardships, Devasi has continued her education in Jamtara while relentlessly pursuing excellence in shooting sports. Her determination and hard work have enabled her to achieve remarkable success at both national and international levels.
Earlier this year, she had already demonstrated her talent by winning a gold medal at the National Rifle Shooting Championship held in Goa, establishing herself as a promising athlete in the discipline.
Following her latest victory in Thailand, Devasi highlighted the practical challenges she continues to face in her sporting journey. She stated that she does not have access to sufficient and modern equipment required for air gun shooting, a sport that demands expensive infrastructure and advanced training facilities.
She expressed that with improved resources and better training facilities, she would be able to deliver even stronger performances and win more medals for the country in upcoming national and international competitions.
Devasi has appealed for assistance, expressing hope that the state government will extend support to help her overcome these limitations and further enhance her training environment. Her achievement stands as a testament to resilience in the face of economic hardship and limited resources.
The young athlete’s success not only highlights her personal dedication but also underscores the urgent need for improved sports infrastructure for talented athletes emerging from rural and economically weaker backgrounds.
