A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at a salon and an adjoining garments factory unit in Mumbai’s Wadala area, leaving a 65-year-old man injured and triggering a major emergency response.

The blaze erupted at 1.34 am in a shop located on the ground floor of a structure on Salt Pan Road in Sangam Nagar, officials said. Initially confined to the salon, the fire engulfed hair-cutting instruments and electrical installations before rapidly spreading to the neighbouring garments unit.

A man identified as Mohd Umar sustained 8 to 9 per cent burn injuries in the incident. He was immediately admitted to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in Sion, where his condition was reported to be stable, according to officials.

Emergency response teams deployed at least four fire engines along with additional firefighting vehicles to the site. Firefighting operations continued for several hours before the blaze was fully brought under control by around 6 am.
