Leading this expansion, Tata Motors is strengthening its electric SUV portfolio with the upcoming Safari EV, expected to debut during the festive season this year. The model retains the overall design language of the conventional Safari while introducing electric-specific styling elements, including a closed front grille, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and redesigned LED lighting signatures. Positioned as Tata’s first three-row electric SUV, the Safari EV is expected to offer premium features such as ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, connected vehicle technology, and a triple-screen dashboard layout inspired by the Sierra EV concept. The SUV is likely to be offered with 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs, with the larger variant expected to deliver a claimed driving range exceeding 620 kilometres. Select higher trims may also include an all-wheel-drive configuration.
In addition, Maruti Suzuki is preparing its first electric MPV, internally referred to as the YMC, with a market launch expected by the end of 2026. The vehicle is expected to be larger than the Ertiga and may be offered in both five- and seven-seater configurations, including captain seat layouts. Reported features include a large infotainment touchscreen, panoramic glass roof, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, wireless charging, connected car technology, ventilated seating, and a 360-degree camera system. The model is expected to use battery technology similar to the e Vitara, with the larger 61 kWh battery pack potentially delivering a range of up to 543 kilometres.
Toyota is also expected to introduce its own version of the YMC. While mechanically sharing the same platform, battery systems, and powertrain as the Maruti Suzuki model, Toyota’s version will feature revised exterior styling to establish a distinct brand identity.
Separately, Tata Motors is also developing the Avinya X, a premium electric crossover expected to offer five-, six-, and seven-seater configurations. The near-production version has already been showcased, highlighting a futuristic cabin design and advanced technology integration. Measuring close to five metres in length, the model is positioned to set a new benchmark in Tata’s premium electric vehicle lineup.
Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast is also preparing a seven-seater electric MPV for the Indian market. A more affordable variant is expected to support fleet operations and mobility services, aligned with the company’s Green and Smart Mobility ride-hailing platform. The MPV is expected to feature a 60.13 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed driving range of approximately 517 kilometres.
Overall, the Indian automotive sector is witnessing a decisive shift toward large electric family vehicles, with multiple global and domestic manufacturers aligning their product strategies to meet rising demand for spacious, feature-rich, and long-range electric mobility solutions.
